Description
Overview:
The Bajaj Platina series has always chased the maximum fuel efficiency in the 100cc commuter segment (Source). Now they launched Bajaj Platina 100 ES. The engine can produce 8.2Ps of peak power and can give 97 Kmpl of mileage on average situations.
Design:
Design-wise the Platina ES is very common looking commuter like the previous Platina 100. Now the added some new graphics, a new grab rail, and new gunmetal engine color. All the things are same as before with alloy wheels, drum brakes, skinny tires, orange turn signals, etc. It comes with four color choices i.e. Ebony Black with silver decals, Ebony black with red decals, Blue, and Candy red.
The instrument Cluster and Switch gears:
The instrument cluster of the Bajaj Platina ES 100 is all analog unit consisting of two circular sub-units. The left one has a speedometer and an odometer while the right one has an only fuel gauge. The switchgear is pretty basic. The exception is there is an electric start button on the right handlebar. No engine kill switch though.
Engine and Performance:
This is where the bike had some major touchups. The engine is now 102.5 cc instead of 99cc, single cylinder, air-cooled, OHC, 2-valve, DTS-i engine with Bajaj’s exhausted. It can now produce 8.2Ps of peak power and 8.6 Nm of peak torque. The weight to power ratio is good regarding the 108 kg weight of the bike.
This engine is mated with a 4-speed all down gearbox. The fuel capacity is 11 Liters and the mileage claim is 97 KMPL which is very impressive.
The bike performs very well in the 0 to 60 Kmph mark but starts to lose breath in 80kmph achieving the top speed of 90Kmph. Well, the bike is not designed for speed rather fuel efficiency which it does better than most bikes.
Wheels & Brakes:
The Platina ES comes with 17-inch wheels with 2.75×17 or 80/100-17 tire in the front and 3.00×17 or 100/80-17 tire at the rear. No tubeless tires are equipped. The 110mm drum brakes do an average job stopping the vehicle.
Comfort and Handling:
The first thing that comes in mind while talking about the handling of the Bajaj Platina ES 100 is its 108Kg lightweight body, which makes it very easy to handle the bike in everywhere.
It has a telescopic fork set up at the front and the SNS rear spring setup does a very impressive job soaking up all the bumps and potholes in the road. It has a long seat which gives enough room for both rider and pillion to play around.
It has enough ground clearance to go on urban roads too. The ES on the name stands for Electric Start. That means one does not have to kick every time to go around somewhere. The bike has no vibration within the 0-60Kmph marks or low in the rev range.
Conclusion:
The Bajaj Platina ES is all in all a family package. The fuel efficiency and comfort make it ride every day to day works. It is not for style rather getting work done in the most efficient way that is for sure.
